Adrian Lam’s tears as son Lachlan makes debut for Sydney Roosters

There were tears of joy when Lachlan Lam picked up the phone and told his famous father he would be making his NRL debut with the Sydney Roosters on Saturday night.

And Adrian Lam was still overcome with emotions – even stopping several times to compose himself – as he told the Herald from England about what it meant to see his son pull on the red, white and blue.

The veteran of 146 games with the Roosters said of Lachlan: ‘‘I cried straight away when he called. I tried not to. I can’t even talk now, that’s how bad it is. When he told me, there was the flashback of him with the ball under his pillow and waking and carrying the ball around everywhere.’’

Lam’s chance came after Cooper Cronk was yesterday ruled out of the Roosters clash with Manly at Brookvale Oval due to a hamstring strain. Long viewed as a playmaking successor to Cronk, Lam will steer the reigning premiers around the park alongside Luke Keary.
