“The Australian Federal Police can confirm a senior executive officer is currently on leave pending a professional standards investigation,” a spokesman told AAP in a statement tonight.
“As the matter is ongoing it is not appropriate to comment further.”
The AFP wouldn’t name the officer but multiple outlets reported it is deputy commissioner Ramzi Jabbour.
Mr Jabbour has worked for the federal police for nearly three decades.
He was involved in the Mohamed Haneef controversy, which in 2007 saw an Indian born doctor falsely accused of aiding terrorists.
