Calf injury may sideline Hooker until round five

Essendon have suffered a big blow, with star swingman Cale Hooker potentially ruled out until round five due to a calf injury.

Hooker had been progressing well from a hamstring injury he sustained in January and was expected to face Geelong at Kardinia Park on Thursday night in the Bombers’ final hitout before the season begins.

But the All-Australian defender is now facing four to six weeks on the sidelines because of the fresh soft-tissue injury.

“Cale was doing the last training session before he was due to return for JLT [game] two,” Essendon physical performance manager Justin Crow said.
